Wikipedia - Scottish Premiership

The Scottish Premiership (Scots Gaelic: Prìomh Lìog na h-Alba) known as the William Hill Premiership for sponsorship reasons, is the top division of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL), the league competition for men's professional football clubs in Scotland. The Scottish Premiership was established in July 2013, after the SPFL was formed by a merger of the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League. There are 12 teams in this division, with each team playing 38 matches per season. Sixteen clubs have played in the Scottish Premiership since its creation in the 2013–14 season. Celtic are the current league champions, having won the 2023–24 Scottish Premiership.

The Scotland Premiership, officially known as the Scottish Premiership, is the top tier of professional football in Scotland. Established in 2013, it replaced the Scottish Premier League as part of a restructuring of the Scottish football league system. The tournament features 12 teams competing in a league format, where each team plays 38 matches over the course of the season, facing each opponent twice—once at home and once away.

The season typically runs from August to May, culminating in a thrilling race for the championship title, European qualification spots, and the battle against relegation. The team that finishes at the top of the table is crowned the champion and earns a place in the UEFA Champions League, while the teams finishing in lower positions face the risk of relegation to the Scottish Championship.

The Scotland Premiership is known for its passionate fan base, historic rivalries, and rich footballing heritage. Clubs like Celtic and Rangers dominate the league, with their fierce rivalry known as the Old Firm match drawing significant attention both domestically and internationally. The tournament showcases a blend of emerging talent and seasoned professionals, making it an exciting competition for fans and players alike.

In addition to the league matches, the Scotland Premiership teams also compete in domestic cup competitions, including the Scottish Cup and the League Cup, adding further excitement to the football calendar. With its unique atmosphere, competitive spirit, and deep-rooted traditions, the Scotland Premiership remains a cornerstone of Scottish football culture.
