Wikipedia - Pro D2

Pro D2 is the second tier of rugby union club competition division in France. It is operated by Ligue Nationale de Rugby (LNR) which also runs the division directly above, the first division Top 14. Rugby Pro D2 was introduced in 2000. It is the world's best supported second tier rugby union league.

The French Division 2, officially known as "Pro D2," is the second tier of professional rugby union in France, serving as a crucial stepping stone for clubs aspiring to reach the elite Top 14 league. Established in 2005, Pro D2 features a competitive format that showcases the depth and talent of French rugby, with teams from across the nation vying for promotion and the chance to compete at the highest level.

The tournament typically consists of 16 teams, each battling it out over a grueling season that spans from August to May. Teams play a round-robin format, with each club facing every other team twice—once at home and once away. Points are awarded for wins, draws, and bonus points, creating an exciting race for the top positions on the league table.

The top teams at the end of the regular season earn the opportunity to compete in the playoffs, culminating in a final that determines the champion of Pro D2. The winner is granted promotion to the Top 14, while the teams finishing at the bottom of the table face the threat of relegation to the lower divisions.

Pro D2 is renowned for its passionate fan base, vibrant matchday atmospheres, and the development of emerging rugby talent. It serves as a vital platform for players to showcase their skills and for clubs to build their identities, making it an integral part of the French rugby landscape. With its blend of tradition, competition, and excitement, the French Division 2 continues to capture the hearts of rugby enthusiasts both in France and around the world.
