The National Basketball League (NKL) (Lithuanian: Nacionalinė krepšinio lyga), also known as 7bet-NKL for sponsorship reasons, is the second-tier basketball minor league in Lithuania. It is placed below the top division Lietuvos krepšinio lyga (LKL). The competition currently consists of 15 teams. The champions of the league have the option to promote to the LKL. However, this rarely happens, as most clubs do not meet the requirements for budget and seating capacity.

History

The league was established in 2005, when the second division LKAL (Lietuvos Krepšinio A Lyga, Lithuanian Basketball A League) was abolished and split into two divisions, the NKL, which is its direct successor, and the newly founded third division RKL.

The Lithuania NKL (National Basketball League) is a premier basketball tournament that showcases the best of Lithuania's emerging talent and competitive spirit. Established to promote the development of basketball at the grassroots level, the NKL serves as a vital platform for young athletes to hone their skills and gain exposure in a highly competitive environment.

Featuring a diverse array of teams from across the country, the tournament is known for its fast-paced games, intense rivalries, and passionate fan support. Each season, teams battle it out for the coveted championship title, with players demonstrating their athleticism, teamwork, and strategic prowess on the court.

The NKL not only highlights the rich basketball culture of Lithuania but also plays a crucial role in scouting and nurturing future stars who may eventually make their mark in higher leagues, including the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) and international competitions. With a focus on sportsmanship and community engagement, the Lithuania NKL is more than just a tournament; it is a celebration of the sport and a testament to Lithuania's enduring love for basketball.
